PRE-COLOMBIAN BALLGAME YOKE

PRE-COLOMBIAN BALLGAME YOKE

U-shaped yoke carved from a single piece of stone from the Mesoamerican ballgame in Veracruz, circa 300-900 AD.
These stone yokes are believed to be used in ritual or funerary contexts, later found in tombs of the most socially prestigious people of the region. Some were also awarded as trophies or buried as offerings, while lighter versions were made from wood or cloth so they could be worn during play.
