Born in Copenhagen in 1979, Oliver Gustav's early years were particularly shaped by a close relationship with his maternal grandfather, a creative blacksmith with an impressive collection of prehistoric artefacts. This early impression not only sparked Oliver's lifelong passion for collecting unique and rare objects but also deeply influenced his aesthetic vision.
Growing up in the 1980s, Oliver also found a natural fascination with the era’s high-tech design and its raw use of metals. Together these contrasting early impressions have fostered a deep interest in the visual juxtaposition and interplay between not only modernity and antiquity but also of different materials, scale and space.An harmonious play with contrasts has become an almost hallmark of Oliver Gustav’s distinctive artistic approach.
